In 2024, Braddock Philanthropies was a key donor in creating an operational endowment in support of the Veterinary Center for Clinical Trials at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. This groundbreaking center is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for pets by rapidly advancing innovative, safe, and effective treatments. The center’s vision is to bring cutting-edge care to our beloved animal patients, ultimately extending these breakthroughs to human medicine and on a global scale.

At the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, animals presenting with naturally occurring diseases, and their devoted families have the opportunity to enroll in pioneering clinical trials.  Many conditions affecting pets, such as diabetes and cancer, have parallels in human health, and the innovative treatments developed at UC Davis hold promise for advancing human medicine. The successful collaboration between UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and UC Davis Health (human health) exemplifies the profound impact of these endeavors.

Philanthropy has been instrumental in propelling veterinary medicine forward from training veterinary professionals to enhancing patient care and driving innovation at the School of Veterinary Medicine. From healing cats and dogs to caring for birds, lizards and horses, the School’s collaborative research environment brings together students, clinicians, and scholars in more than 40 clinical specialties.

Bob Braddock first became interested in veterinary medicine at a young age when he saw sea turtles hatch on the beach then run to the ocean. Although he didn’t pursue the profession, he retained his love for helping animals. As a grateful client of the UC Davis Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, Bob has witnessed first-hand the expertise and world-class care provided to three of his dogs.

Bob understands the connection between the health of animals, people and the planet. He is a terrific partner for the School and we are incredibly grateful for this generous gift from Braddock Philanthropies. This operational endowment, supported by Braddock Philanthropies, will serve as a catalyst for accelerating research and improving the lives of both animals and humans.

Dr. Mark Stetter, Dean, UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine

Through Bob’s experiences, he realized that only a limited number of institutions are driving forward veterinary health in a myriad of ways, and saw that UC Davis is at the forefront of doing so through the Veterinary Center for Clinical Trials. Supporting the center means saving the lives of patients in a variety of disciplines like oncology, neurology/neurosurgery, ophthalmology, and cardiology, and also advancing human health.
