Braddock Center for Science and Innovation Opens at Cal State East Bay

The Braddock Center for Science and Innovation was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 13, 2024.

The 20,000-square-foot state-of-the-art applied sciences center, now open to students, faculty, and staff, was funded completely through private support, including the $5M grant from Braddock Philanthropies and East Bay natives Robert Braddock and Cherie Keemar.

Cathy Sandeen, University President, California State University, East Bay (Hayward, CA)

The College of Science is Cal State East Bay’s fastest-growing college. The center was built to expand opportunities for faculty-mentored student research and accommodate the rapid growth in students studying the sciences at Cal State East Bay. Each department is focused on providing foundational disciplinary knowledge and tangible skills that will allow students to have an immediate impact once they enter the workforce. Classes will start in the Braddock Center in Spring 2025.

Inside, students will find cutting-edge research labs. Open-concept laboratories will house multiple student and faculty teams working on priority research. One of these labs will be dedicated to the new flagship Green Biome Institute, dedicated to the study and conservation of California’s endangered plants.

A student-faculty research space will support interdisciplinary research, and the innovation center will encourage students to explore the application of new technologies to significant and real issues confronting the region and world.
